No matter if you are an experienced scooter rider or just starting out, wearing a helmet is vitally important.
There are many affordable options that adhere to US safety standards available that you should consider wearing while on the scooter.
Here are a few of our favorites; all have an attractive aesthetic while performing effectively without breaking the bank.
1. Icon Variant Pro
The Icon Variant Pro is an updated version of its iconic dual sport adventure helmet from over a decade ago, having undergone wind tunnel refinement to provide an impressive piece of equipment.
Icon Variant Pro: Elevate your scooter rides with cutting-edge protection and standout looks |
This visor system comes equipped with two shields that offer plenty of ventilation, while its comfort lining is top notch - offering crown, laterale and fore/aft padding components to offer over 27 possible configurations to meet different head shapes.
At 3.5lbs (1.6Kg), this helmet may seem heavier than expected; however, no one we asked complained of it being heavy, and most said the fit was great.
Some noted it might not be ideal for motorway riding though - many noted above 70mph it becomes hard work due to aero pulling on peak which results in constant head turn at higher speeds; although that could also depend on bike type or weather conditions; furthermore its 3D moulded visor offers clear and distortion-free vision.
2. Shoei RF-SR
Shoei makes some of the finest motorcycle helmets around - and this model from them offers premium features at an attractive price point.
Shoei RF-SR: Combining advanced technology and superior design for scooter riders who value safety |
Rated M2015 by SHARP (which indicates its ability to provide good protection during an accident), it comes equipped with a Pinlock anti-fog insert and utilizes CWR-1 shield shape, making replacement easy as well as offering photochromic option upgrade capabilities.
The RF-SR helmet is designed for optimal aerodynamics and comfort, featuring a compact shell design and sharp, aggressive styling.
Ventilation is superb thanks to a large rear exhaust vent and chin vent; distortion free face shield replacement can easily be accomplished using QR-E base plate system, making for quick toolless changes of shield.
The RF-SR offers four shell sizes to cover various head shapes, helping avoid that "space helmet" look while simultaneously minimizing weight (which has both aesthetic and safety implications; heavier helmets have greater inertia during an accident).
Furthermore, its robust chin vent sliders with vault-like solidity make for a superior experience compared to cheaper motorcycle helmets.
3. HJC i10
HJC is known for crafting helmets that are both stylish and cost-effective; with their i10 model being no exception.

Not only can it provide solid performance at an exceptional value point but its price point makes this an excellent value proposition as well.
This full-flip-front helmet was created specifically to fit people with intermediate oval head shapes.
It comes equipped with a clear visor, is Snell approved (except for its XXXL shell size ) and Snell certified.
This helmet offers great ventilation through all its holes, is very comfortable on long rides, and weighs less than five ounces - not to mention its stylish graphic options to customize things further!
Owners report it is quiet compared to most flip-front helmets and fairly quiet compared to full-face helmets too, though without a chin curtain it might not block out some noise as much.
HJC provides this helmet with an extremely strong visor detent system that does not open at high speeds, making it track-ready.
They offer tinted visors as an accessory option. Furthermore, HJC includes a padded helmet bag and two page instruction manual for this lid.
4. Shark D-Skwal 2
Shark's Skwal Helmet is an all-around sport-touring lid with all of the features desired by owners of this type.

The comfortable lining is both antibacterial and hypoallergenic while its sun visor features polyvalency with drop down mechanism (easy operation with gloves on) plus it includes Pinlock Max Vision insert.
Owners also appreciate its autoseal shield system while noise attenuation exceeds average levels.
This latest version builds upon the success of its predecessor and offers improved LEDs, more comfortable chin bar action and micrometric closure, improved aero design to reduce buffeting and lift, as well as SHARP safety rating of 4 stars - this ensures it DOT certified in America as well as ECE 22-05 tested for Europe/Oz/SA testing.
For those without LEDs, there is also an alternative version of the Skwal 2 that provides all of its great features at a lower cost.
It features plenty of graphics that match your bike while still remaining cost-friendly.
